Conspiracy Theories

Last year you may remember the controversy surrounding Jay-Z's "On to the next one" video. It was chockablock full of satanic masonic imagery. So much so, that people out there created a video (that u can see on youtube) dissecting and analyzing all the imagery as evidence, trying to suggest Jay was part of a satanic wing of the masons and an money grabbing evil one at that. Personally I found it all to be stupid hype. I think it was a stunt just to get people talking... which of course worked. Jay is no more a mason then I am the head of the CIA, lol, but here we are in 2010 and guess who's now being targeted for analysis now!??!?!?!?
Well, in the midst of black history month and after a few embarrassing "black face" pictures surfaced of Diplo, its Major Lazor's turn.
If you been bored, snowed in and stuck on facebook this last week like myself, you may of seen the current feud between NYC's Crunc Tesla Vs. Major Lazor...
heres the video...

Now, im not going to comment too much here. I dont think Diplo is racist (no more then the average person), more likely just another misguided person trying a lil too hard to "be down" but more interestingly it does raise a few questions I would like you folk out there to think about...
At what point does music become exploited? Is Major Lazer deliberately racist or the product of the blissfully innocent/ignorant? Is Major Lazer being picked on because they are white people doing "music of black origin" and getting paid when a lot of acts dont seem to make it? Is race still even an issue here in the post Collie Buddz music era?
Is Diplo/Major Lazer exploiting Dancehall culture to make money?? or are they doing it for the love of the music? Do u care? Are you offended? do you not even give a shit?

DISCUSS!!!

Anyways, I am currently selecting tunes for the free "Ammunition" mix, that im putting together with Bookz. It will be put out very soon on First City and Its part of the promotion for the Ammunition EP coming out next month. It's a selection of instrumentals aimed at the MC that's "ready for war/battle".

If you have any instrumentals that you would like to be part of Ammunition email me here... also...keep it locked as the mix will be posted here for free download very soon.....

STEAK002

After a solid premier release Steakhouse Records label heads Monkey Steak have packed their highly-anticipated and long-awaited second disc full of dancehall/funky derivatives and is receiving support from Toddla T and Chrissy Murderbot as well as rave reviews from DJ Mag. Hyped Up EP's title track is a kuduru/acid high-energy freak-out with a wicked carnival-vocal laced by MC Zulu. The instrumental, Bombeiros, is a fairly strong riddim in its own right and sure to keep things moving in the rave. Hanuman and Atki2 then slow things down (speeds up rather!) with the 90 bpm Tigris Riddim sounding like significantly more benign Muslim Gauze tune, followed up by Haarlem Drift - imo the most natty selection - which adds some well-placed pads and samples to the UK funky mold. Friday shipping from Chemical or wait for the digital.

Here is the phenomenal Greivous Angel remix of Tigris Riddim which, oddly, didn't make it onto the EP. Massive Tune!

RAP-FLASHBACK Pt.1 "CAREFUL"

Like Grime music, DnB, Rap, in fact most music... they all had a "golden era".... Today i want to share this gem from Wu-Tangs 2000 "the W" album. The imagery reminds me of the early so solid videos and most of the grime videos ever made come to think of it. This is one of my fav. RZA beats... it minimalist but so complicated at the same time...a bouncing bass line that never stops, with sparse kung-fu movie samples and then this, wot I can only describe as a space age magical bubbling sound every few bars.... OVERLY SICK...AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT...ITS FROM 10 YEARS AGO!!!!! Shit still hits hard enuff to make u wanna go Chris Brown on sumbody.....CAREFUL!!!

My Sweet Sweet Pum Pum

hello, hello, hello....

This is a short post about "Sticky"...If u dont already know... this guy has been in da UKG scene since it began.... sum of his biggest tunes include... Stush's "doller sign", SLK's "Hype Hype", Miss Dynamite's "Bad Gyal"....just to name a few... well now hes back with more of his trade mark dancehall-ukg-grimey-bashment-sound, and this time with Natalie Storm pon di mic. She does a good job singing how sweet her "pum pum" is and pulls it off nicely without sounding like a complete whore. Its def. sutin hard to pull off but I think she does a great job and it will def. get your girl shaking her back off in di dance. Miss Storm has def. got mad potential, Plus I think I got like a lil school boy type crush on her right now... anyways u never know, Rihanna started out doing dancehall before she sold her soul and became the new Grace Jones.... like I said...U NEVER KNOW!!!
BLE$$!

P.S. sum older classic (Instrumental) Sticky production...this time st8 grime yeh...and damn, wen it drops...IT DROPS!!! BIG!!!

Humber Dont Slumber

Here it is. After a week of navigating DNS registry and CNAME records Don't Sleep NYCis live. DSNYC is a forum for events, sounds, and gear not be slept on as well as a showcase of the tireless talents of some of NYC's insomniac creatives. For all my individuals working two jobs and still finding time to make creative ends: its time to get paid. It's gonna be a hot summer and an even hotter winter...

In lieu of not sleeping on future fresh, I'm starting the blog rolling with something that escaped my attention previously. Ramadanman is a dubstep producer with a very distinctive sound. His tracks can be quite sparse but almost always feature diverse rhythmic structure and mind-hollowing sub-bass. Some recent tracks have seen Mr. Kennedy returning to garage and basic channel roots as dubstep continues to branch-out towards tropical, funky and techno sounds. Humber - released on Applepips in May 2009 - is just such a track with cheeky vid here produced by Vector Meldrew which I will be replaying for the next hr. or so ... Stay up!
