Prepare for the unexpected. Absolutely sick lineup at Konkrete Jungle tonight. Odi, Force 1(aka Doug the bouncer) and Survival crew will be holding it down in fine style. These are among the best DJ's I have ever seen at Konkrete and undoubtedly the most surprising. Get there early and don't forget to rsvp. More detailshere for all you facespacers. ble$$

BENGA/CASPA/HUDMO @ WEBSTER HALL

Massive event put together by Mean Red featuring none other than Croydon's own Afro-Warrior, Benga alongside Caspa, and Hudson Mohawke. Benga is by far my favorite of this lineup, seeing as he has been pushing the dubstep sound in a much funkier, detroiterer and baltimorierer direction for some time now. Caspa's forthcoming Ludacris remix has a lot of people talking and is strangely reminiscent, in parts, of Cajmere's percolator. Hudson Mohawke seems like something of a mismatch for this event since his music tends to fall into the wonky or glitch genres. In the case of his most recent album, that wonkyness is completely over-saturated with 80's synth-pop and r'n'b. Considering that this event was custom "built" for Webster Hall's Boys & Girls night, this pairing is perhaps less odd than it seems. That is if one can ignore the oddity of it being at Webster Hall in the first place. Times have changed ...

Look out for Rusko April 9th

Shortstuff/XI @ Dubwar

NYC's Longest running Dubstep night, Dubwar, has put together another terrific pairing of front-running producers for tonight's lineup. Brackles cohort Shortstuff made a big splash on Ramp records back in 2008 and continues to smash out funkier rhythms with the kind of bit-crushed tropical post-garage flair we've come to expect from his Blunted Robots label. He's joined by XI, whose most recent releases on Immerse have brought together some the best elements of dubstep and techno sounds. Full copy after the jump.

All the way from the UK, the Blunted Robots co-conspirator (along with Brackles and Martin Kemp), and all-around hard-jackin badboy DJ Shortstuff makes his Dub War debut. His signature blend of dubstep, grime, funky, breakbeat and progressive trance (joking) have found fans worldwide, and his skills behind the decks have turned heads. Check his XLR8R mix and releases on Ramp, Berkane Sol, Punch Drunk, and his own Blunted Robots label.

He's joined by Toronto's finest, XI, whose production talents are becoming favorites of savvy dubsteppers. Still criminally under-recognized, watch out for him making waves this year.

Guru's Mass Appeal

If u haven't heard by now... Guru from the Hip Hop group Gang Starr... suffered a heart attack this past weekend and is currently in a coma... We wish him and his family the best and we wish him a quick and speedy recovery, and also because... really... Hip Hop wouldn't f*ckin be what it is today without Gang Starr... no bullsh*t...

Before Bentley's..... before Bling... before Cristal... people loved Hip Hop for what it was... Beautiful Music... and it was held to a far greater standard than it is today... and don't get it twisted... I'm not one of those people who hate all Hip Hop made after after 1998, cause thats not the case... I've been known to like my fair share of Pop Hop tracks.....
( if u see someone who uses that u know who said it first) ..

Seriously... I don't have a problem with commercial Hip Hop at all... but when thats the majority of what u see, I realize how fortunate it was to have groups like Gang Starr.. who pushed the sounds of Hip Hop to heights not seen in quite some time...

and with that... this is just ONE of my favorite Gang Starr tracks... !!!!
still sounds new...
Get well soon Guru!!!
Much respect to DJ Premier
